HARNESSING THE POWER OF COMMUNICATION AND CREATIVITY TO INFLUENCE CHANGE.

We’ve all heard stories where small, seemingly insignificant elements, redressed the balance and changed everything. Like the case study about an inexpensive survey in Uganda that explained the cultural reasons AIDS was spreading so fast. Because of that simple survey, Uganda was able to turn the tide on AIDS infections through a targeted media campaign.

Simple. To the point. Setting things in motion. These are key elements of what effective communication looks like.

We believe stories like this bring joy to God's heart and we want to keep telling them. The purpose of the SSC is to train christians who have a message or issue on their heart and want to do something about it. We help you get a hold of the knowledge, tools and skills you need to be a clear voice of truth, challenging the status quo and changing the world through the sphere of communication. If that describes you, we hope you will join us at Restenäs for the School of Strategic Communication.

There will be eight weeks of interactive sessions taught by visiting experts working in the areas of marketing, branding, research, and creative communication. Weekly assignments  and projects will provide you with immediate, practical application throughout the course. In the final two weeks, your class will work in groups to create cutting edge communication and branding campaigns with the goal of  impacting your audience’s views on the selected issue.

WEEKLY TOPICS

1 - PROPHETIC COMMUNICATION

At one point or another we all have wondered how the bible is relevant, specifically when it comes to dealing with social issues facing the world today. This week is all about diving deep into God’s word and obtaining wisdom and principles for effective communication. We learn about the prophetic model, the power of symbolism, and the important role creativity and communication plays in influencing positive change in the world.

2 - IDENTITY: THE UNVEILING PROCESS

In a world permeated with ideas of who you should be it is easy to get lost in the noise, to blend in, and to be normal. This week is about exploring the crucial role discovering identity and living from the inside-out plays in influencing how we live. Who are you? What are the gifts, talents, passions and desires that are uniquely you? How could you use those in a way that drives meaningful change?

3 - MARKETING MIX

What is marketing? Why does it matter? And what does God have to say about it? Here we unpack the concept of marketing and the crucial role is plays in communication and how you can use it to drive change.

4 - RESEARCH

This week is all about listening, asking good questions, research methods, and types of research. Through a hands on approach, you will learn why research is important and how to employ it in a way that drives effective communication and the creative process.

5 - BRANDING

When we think about some of the most inspiring and valuable brands in the world Apple, IKEA, and NIKE among others, come to mind. Ever wondered why? How these brands achieve being more than a company, how they make heart connections with millions of people across all cultures and backgrounds? Learn all about branding and the creative process.

6 - PROJECT MANAGEMENT

How do you move an idea or project from vision to reality? How do you garner creative power, human power, and resources in a way that sets you up to reach your desired goal? You will learn the importance of focus, hard-work, intention, and the step by step of how to achieve success.

7 - TRENDS & CULTURE

Learn about how to be alert, in tune, and engaged with the current realities of issues facing our world today. And explore ways to join conversations and be a clear voice of truth in a relevant way.

At the end of the course you'll have the possibility to propose an internship to accomplish your own strategic communication goals such as political or evangelistic campaigns, and promoting new marketplace or ministry initiatives, etc.

If you are a University of the Nations degree student, this course serves as bridge, bringing together all teachings from past training and helping you to apply them in real world, hands-on, communication efforts. This course also fulfils one of the College of Communication core course requirements.
